weekend warrior

Last night I went out outside of my neighborhood for the first time in what feels like forever. Nathalie would be proud. I got an email during work that Becky was going to the Kingston Mines that night and since I've been wanting to go to a blues club I decided to go. Nobody was home when I got back from work so I just relaxed and had a whiskey and smoked a little. JC came over for a bit, but he went out with some other friends up in Andersonville. It was fun to hang out and linger, but know I had somewhere to go. I decided to walk since it was equally far as work but through a different part of the city. I smoked a lot before I went and made it into a sort of adventure. Lots of industry between here and there, though. Not as walker friendly as it could be. I found it pretty easy and Becky was already inside with her friends. The place looked a little like a few places in New Orleans - it has two stages on side by side rooms. They switched the bands back and forth so it you didn't move there was a 40 miute set and then a 40 minute break. You could hear pretty well from anywhere in the place, though. Stella showed up after 15 minutes, which was cool. I was in a drinking mood and felt like staying out late so Becky Stella and myself started drinking and got serious about it. It was a lot of fun - good music, a lot of smoking. I walked home, too. I left at 3:30 when things were winding down. It was about an hour to walk home, but I had some weed with me and smoked on the way home. Took a different route home. Got home happy and ready for bed. Tonight it's over to John's house for a few drinks and hanging out with Collen, Jess, Matt and Matt's sister and girlfriend. Maybe Al, too.

Sunday morning

BBC NEWS | Americas

My roommate is back in town. She arrived from SF late last night. I haven't seen her yet - was over at John's house watching the beginning of 81/2 and sleeping. Now I'm home and she's asleep, which is pretty typical. Even on a normal weekend she won't get out of bed until the early afternoon.
On Friday night Gillian and her sister and Nathalie came over. We went out to Happy Village Pub, which was really small and seemed very local. We only live 8 blocks away, but I felt like an outsider. We moved onto the Lava Lounge on my block and had a few drinks, but got kicked out at 2 when the bar closed. Gillian and her sister went to bed and me, John and Nathalie headed out for Estelles. I hadn't been there yet, but it was pretty cool. Too corwded for my liking, but when we got a booth is was a lot better, aided by the fact that they have cocktail waitresses so you don't need to wait at the bar.
On Saturday me and JC walked around and found things in alleys for his apartment. People put out the wierdest stuff. We found a ceramic duck cookie jar. It looks like it spent some time in somebodies garden, but I guess they got tired of it. There was a lso a ceramic pedestal sick with fixtures and a ceramic toilet. We didn't get them since we have nowhere to put them, but if I owned property I would grab them in a second. Wonder why somebody didn't want them anymore - they can be really expesnive. We also found a bookcase, a desk, a dresser and four table legs with a frame and cross bracing so all we need to do is buy a top. Everything is in great shape, and it was fun to collect. At first it was just me and John on foot carrying things back to the apartment, but once Colleen got home we cruised up and down the alleys in her van. Now they need a couch, which will have to be bought. I may scavenge fromj the alleys, but I won't take anything with fabric. I may be poor, but I'm not a student anymore!

Friday Night

It's Friday night again. I'm at home sitting on the couch and looking the whole weekend in the face. JC is here talking to his sister on the phone. Gillian and her sister are coming over later on tonight. I think it will be fun to go out to a neighborhood bar. There's one near John's new house called Happy Village Pub that I would like to go to. There's a sign in the window that says "The Happiest Place in East Village." That sounds good.
Becky is coming up tomorrow and staying the night. It will be fun to see her up here.
But now, it's time to get back to the weekend...
